Day trip: Sitges

Sitges is a town just 30 minutes south of Barcelona by train. It´s a beautiful small town full of wealthy people, which is also why it´s sometimes called the St. Tropez of Spain.

Wikipedia says:

Modern Sitges, preserving important references from the Middle Age and the old farmers’ and fishermen’s town, offers visitors an impressive architectural and cultural heritage, the result of initiatives by artists, cultural energizers and patrons like Santiago Rusiñol, Ramon Casas, Miquel Utrillo or Charles Deering. Thanks to them, Sitges was a reference point for writers, musicians and other intellectuals and became an important center for disseminating Modernism and the "Americanos", who, after returning with their "fortune" from their American adventure, commissioned large mansions from Modernist and Noucentista (post Art Nouveau) architects.

In the next post, we should be able to update this with better photos. These ones do not show the town itself but we haven´t been able to get online for long in the last week, so that´s the best we´ve got!

Some parts of the town were like walking through a postcard. Under this sign were a couple of people playing the accordion and singing for some money.

Port Vell, i love you

Spending time at the beach and the ports of Barcelona is a great way to use a whole day. I´ve alredy shown you some of the beach, so here is more of what I like better: the marinas. The big money of Barcelona is really evident in Port Vell.

So, here is my newest yacht. You can see someone there is cleaning it for my fabulous dinner party tonight. Don´t be jealous, k?

One of my favorite things about the port is that there are so many new things coming in and leaving. Here is the Mercedes-Benz Pangaea, an ocean yacht for explorer Mike Horn. It has just started it´s journey to go to both the north and south pole for environmental education purposes. Then you have things like this. It is a shipping boat lifting some kind of human sculpture/mannequin. I´m not sure what this is going to be for, but if you click the picture to enlarge it you can see that there is another figure laying beside it. Who knows in Barcelona...
